TheAssociation «Public assessors of the Republic of Tajikistan» (APART) within the framework of the project «Advancing Media Freedom Through Legal Reform in Tajikistan funded by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF)  for young advocates and lawyersb from February 15 to 17, 2022 in the city of Khujand conducted a three-day training on the topic “Media – lawyers on the protection of the rights and interests of the media and journalists”. The purpose of this training was to train media lawyers – specialized defenders of the rights and interests of media representatives in Tajikistan. The training was attended by 20 advocates / lawyers from the Sughd region.

Experts in their field acted as trainers – Chairman of the Territorial body of the Union of Lawyers of the Republic of Tajikistan in the Sughd region Saidov Sadriddin and journalist, media trainer Marupov Jamshed.

The three-day training covered legal issues of protecting the rights and interests of the media in international and national legislation, defamation – its types and measures of responsibility, freedom of speech, censorship and other relevant topics. In addition to theoretical sessions, the training included a lot of teamwork, in which participants worked on solving real cases regarding the protection of media rights and freedoms in Tajikistan.

Also during the training, attention was paid to ensuring the digital security of media lawyers, which is important in the course of work today. It should be noted that many topics were new participants and they listened to the trainers with great interest.

For each session of the training, the organizers prepared “Pre” – tests and “Post” – tests, for a detailed analysis of the impact and level of perception of the training materials on the participants.

In general, the project was carried out in a good organizational level, as evidenced by the positive final speeches of the training participants.
